Pixel floor or starlit dance floor?
- Pixel display floors use a grid of individually controlled RGB LEDs to produce animated patterns and colour effects across connected panels. They are suited to events that require changing visuals, sound-activated effects or DMX control.
- RGB starlit dance floors use illuminated points within high-gloss black or white panels to create twinkling and colour-changing effects. They provide a familiar finish for weddings, parties, hospitality events and venue hire.
A pixel floor is the stronger choice when animated patterns and programmable effects are the priority. A starlit floor provides a cleaner, more traditional illuminated appearance with black or white surface options.
Pixel display floor panels and control
The LEDJ Display Floor uses 500 x 500mm modular panels containing RGB LEDs. Multiple panels can be linked to create a larger visual floor, with dedicated straight edging and corner pieces available to finish the layout.
The Display Floor requires the compatible SD-1 controller to operate. When used with this controller, available options include built-in programmes, automatic operation, sound activation, brightness adjustment and DMX control. Include the controller, required connections and floor configuration in the system plan rather than calculating panel quantity alone.
Starlit panels, finishes and components
Starlit dance floor panels and components include high-gloss black and white RGB panels in 2ft x 2ft and 2ft x 4ft formats. Different three-sided and four-sided panel designs are available for particular positions within a completed layout.
Supporting components include edge trims, power connectors, insulation stickers, remote-control packs and power supplies. Power supplies are available in different capacities, so the correct model must be selected for the planned number and type of panels.
How do you plan an LED dance floor?
- Measure the usable venue area and decide the finished floor dimensions.
- Calculate the required panel combination using the stated dimensions of each panel.
- Identify the correct central, perimeter and corner components for the chosen system.
- Include compatible edge trims around exposed sides to create a finished transition.
- Check controller, power-supply and connection requirements for the complete layout.
- Allow for transport, storage, handling and the individual weight of each component.
Do not mix panels, controllers, power supplies or connections from different dance floor systems unless compatibility is explicitly confirmed.
Installation and operating considerations
Dance floor systems should be assembled on a clean, dry, stable and suitably level surface in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Inspect panels, electrical contacts, connections and edging before use, and route power and control cables so they do not create trip hazards or become trapped beneath components.
Confirm the permitted loading, environmental rating and operating conditions from the individual product documentation. Weather resistance should never be assumed from the appearance of a panel or connector.
