Stage drapes and illuminated starcloth backdrops

This department covers fabric backdrops and supporting equipment for stages, theatres, events, exhibitions and venue dressing. The range includes black molton and serge-style drapes, stage valances, LED starcloth systems, kabuki drop equipment and reusable fasteners for banners and textiles.

Choosing stage drapes and backdrops

Stage drapes provide black backdrops, masking and decorative coverage in a range of dimensions. Options include flat and pleated black molton drapes, pocket drapes, larger backdrop sizes and shallow valances for covering stage or truss edges.

Eyelet and hook-and-loop drapes attach to compatible support systems using their fitted hanging points.
Pocket drapes contain rear pockets for compatible horizontal tubes, allowing the support to remain concealed.
Pleated drapes provide a gathered appearance without requiring the installer to create the folds during setup.
Stage and truss valances provide shallow coverage along stage edges, deck fronts or suitable bars and can be joined for longer runs.

Check the actual finished dimensions, fabric weight, attachment spacing and maximum compatible tube diameter before planning the support structure.

What is an LED starcloth?

LED starcloths combine a dark, low-reflection fabric backdrop with randomly positioned LEDs to create a star-field effect. They are used behind stages, DJs, bands, awards presentations, wedding setups and other event features.

The range includes cool-white starcloths for a traditional night-sky appearance and RGB starcloths for colour-changing effects. Available systems vary in physical size, fabric construction, LED quantity, joining method and supplied control equipment.

Do starcloths support DMX control?

Selected starcloth systems include a compatible controller with automatic, fade, chase, sound-active, master/slave and DMX functions. Other starcloths are supplied without a controller and require the specified separate model.

Controllers and connection formats differ between starcloth generations and product families. Confirm the exact cloth, controller, extension cable and adaptor compatibility before combining components. Similar multipole connectors do not guarantee electrical or control compatibility.

Planning a larger starcloth backdrop

Selected cloths include zips, eyelets or hook-and-loop edges that allow compatible units to be joined into a larger backdrop. Before linking multiple cloths, calculate the total dimensions and confirm how many cloths the selected controller can operate.

Allow for the actual overlap or joining arrangement between adjacent cloths.
Keep power, controller and signal connections accessible for inspection.
Support the full weight of every cloth, cable and controller using suitable rated equipment.
Do not place strain on LED wiring, fabric connectors or control leads.
Fold and transport the cloth according to the product instructions to protect the embedded LEDs.

Kabuki drop systems for stage reveals

Kabuki drop equipment releases a suspended drape or compatible scenic item to create a timed reveal. The available FX Dropper is a powered release unit with a stated maximum load and supplied mounting clamp.

A drop system does not lift the drape back into position. The complete effect must be planned around the total suspended load, number and spacing of release units, supporting structure, control method and the clear area into which the fabric will fall.

Kabuki effects involve suspended and falling materials and must be installed and operated by competent personnel. Keep performers and audiences clear of the drop zone, use suitably rated supporting hardware and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Drape and banner fasteners

Drape and banner fasteners include reusable elastic fixings and gripping clips for compatible canvas, banners and textile materials. Different cord lengths, hook sizes and clip capacities are available.

These fasteners are intended for tensioning and display applications. They should not be treated as lifting equipment or used to suspend loads beyond their stated purpose.

Fire performance and venue requirements

Fire-retardant material is specified on selected drapes and starcloths, but requirements can differ between venues and applications. Check the individual product documentation for the fabric classification, applicable test standard and any care or retreatment requirements.

Fire-retardant sprays are also available for suitable absorbent materials. Treatment does not automatically provide certification for every fabric, venue or intended use. Follow the product instructions and confirm acceptance with the venue or responsible fire-safety professional.
