Choose the Right Special Effect

Smoke, Haze and Atmospheric Effects

The atmospheric effects range includes equipment and consumables for producing smoke, haze, low fog, bubbles, snow and other airborne effects. Smoke creates a dense, visible burst, while haze produces a finer atmosphere that helps reveal lighting beams and aerial effects.

Consider output, warm-up time, fluid consumption, tank capacity, control options and the size of the venue. Only use the fluid specified or approved for the machine, as unsuitable fluids can damage equipment and may produce an unsafe or unpredictable result.

CO₂ Effects

CO₂ effects create fast, high-impact white plumes using liquid CO₂ supplied from a compatible cylinder. The range includes handheld guns, fixed jets, hoses, connectors and control accessories.

CO₂ equipment requires careful planning, suitable ventilation, secure cylinder handling and an appropriate exclusion area around the outlet. The discharge and metal nozzle can become extremely cold and may cause injury. Systems should only be specified and operated by trained, competent personnel following the product instructions and venue risk assessment.

Confetti and Streamer Systems

Confetti and streamer consumables are available in different colours, finishes, shapes and cannon sizes. Choose the material according to the visual effect, firing equipment, projection distance, venue rules and required clean-up.

Confetti control equipment includes launchers and firing systems for loose confetti or compatible pre-filled electric cannons. Some machines use electrically powered projection, while others are designed to trigger disposable cannons. Confirm the required cannon type and firing voltage before connecting a consumable or controller.

Simulated Flame Effect Components

The flame machines section currently includes replacement silks for selected simulated flame-effect machines. These fabric components are illuminated and moved by airflow to create the appearance of a flame without producing a real pyrotechnic flame. Check the original machine size before choosing a replacement silk.

Control and Installation Considerations

  • Control method: Check whether the equipment uses manual, remote, switched-power or DMX operation.
  • Effect coverage: Match the output height, distance and spread to the performance area and audience position.
  • Consumable compatibility: Use the specified fluid, confetti, streamer or cannon type for the equipment.
  • Power requirements: Confirm supply voltage, power consumption, connector type and circuit capacity.
  • Positioning: Maintain the required clearance from performers, audiences, scenery and other equipment.
  • Environmental rating: Do not use equipment outdoors or in damp conditions unless the product is specifically rated for that environment.

Planning Effects Safely

Every special effect should be included in the event or venue risk assessment. Consider audience proximity, visibility, ventilation, noise, residue, slip hazards, fire detection systems and emergency routes. Obtain permission from the venue or responsible authority before using atmospheric, CO₂ or projectile effects.

Do not obstruct or disable fire detection equipment without formal authorisation and an agreed alternative safety procedure. CO₂ cylinders, pressurised equipment and suspended effects must be secured and handled correctly. Operators should inspect equipment, cables, hoses, connectors and consumables before each use.
