Tools & Safety

Professional tools and site equipment for AV, electrical and event-production work, including connector tools, crimp tools, cable management, electrical test adaptors, inspection lights, worklights and tool storage.

Tools for AV, Electrical and Event Production

Prolight Concepts supplies tools and supporting equipment for cable preparation, connector assembly, electrical testing, installation, maintenance and event production. The range includes specialist connector tools, crimping equipment, test adaptors, portable worklights, tool storage and practical equipment for managing cables and handling technical hardware.

Select tools according to the exact connector, terminal, conductor, test instrument or installation task. Similar-looking components can require different tooling, dies or procedures, so compatibility should be confirmed before work begins.

Choose the Right Tools and Equipment

Cable Management Tools

cable management tools help organise, route and identify power, signal, data and control cabling. Correct cable management reduces strain on connectors, keeps service routes accessible and helps prevent cables becoming trip or snagging hazards.

Consider cable diameter, bundle size, bend radius and whether the installation is temporary or permanent. Power and signal cables may also require separation according to the system design and applicable installation requirements.

Connector Tools

connector tools are designed for assembling, tightening, extracting or servicing compatible connector components. Use the tool specified for the connector series to avoid damaging contacts, housings, locking mechanisms or cable glands.

Before assembly, check the cable outside diameter, conductor size, contact type and manufacturer’s preparation dimensions. Completed terminations should receive the appropriate visual, mechanical and electrical checks before use.

Crimp Tools

crimp tools create repeatable mechanical and electrical connections between compatible contacts and conductors. The crimp frame, die set, contact and conductor size must all match.

Do not use general-purpose pliers as a substitute for the specified crimping tool. An incorrect die or incomplete crimp cycle can produce a connection that appears secure but has poor electrical performance or inadequate mechanical retention.

Testing Equipment

testing equipment includes CEE-form, Powerlock and 19-pin Socapex test plugs designed to connect compatible multifunction tester leads to professional power-distribution circuits. Available CEE-form options cover selected 16A, 32A, 63A and 125A circuits across 110V, 230V and 400V configurations.

Powerlock test adaptors are available for individual L1, L2, L3, neutral and earth connections. The Socapex test plug incorporates selectable access to individual circuits without repeatedly disconnecting the test leads.

These products are test adaptors rather than complete test instruments. Confirm the connector format, voltage, phase arrangement, test-lead compatibility and intended procedure before use. Electrical inspection and testing must only be performed by suitably competent personnel using appropriate equipment and safe working practices.

IP Fixture Testing

The testing range also includes the ADJ Hydro IP Tester for checking compatible IP-rated lighting fixtures after servicing or opening the enclosure. It provides vacuum and pressure testing functions with manual and automatic modes.

An IP test result depends on the correct adaptor, test procedure, seals, fasteners and fixture-specific settings. Passing a workshop test does not remove the need to inspect gaskets, cable entries and enclosure components before the fixture is returned to service.

Inspection Lights and Worklights

inspection lights and worklights provide temporary task lighting for workshops, installation sites, warehouses, loading areas and event preparation. The range includes handheld, tripod, open-area and twin-head designs with battery or mains-powered options.

Check light output, beam spread, colour temperature, runtime, operating voltage and environmental rating. Selected battery worklights include adaptors for several professional 18V and 20V battery platforms, but compatibility varies and batteries may be supplied separately. Confirm the exact battery system before use.

Do not assume a portable worklight is weatherproof. For example, an IP20-rated model is intended for dry, protected conditions despite being battery powered.

Installation and Rigging Tools

installation and rigging tools support the assembly and maintenance of staging, truss, clamps and production equipment. Use correctly sized tools to prevent damaged fasteners and follow the tightening method specified for the component.

Hand tools are not load-bearing rigging components. Never use a tool, belt, case or tether as part of a suspension or lifting assembly unless it is specifically designed and rated for that purpose.

Safety and Handling Equipment

safety and handling equipment supports practical work around technical equipment and event sites. Selection should follow the task-specific risk assessment rather than relying on a generic kit for every application.

Inspect safety-related equipment before use and replace items that are damaged, contaminated, excessively worn or outside their specified service life.

Tool Boxes and Storage

tool boxes help protect, organise and transport tools, test equipment and small components. Consider internal dimensions, compartment layout, carrying method and the combined packed weight.

Keep test equipment and precision termination tools protected from impact, moisture and contamination. Store dies, contacts and specialist accessories with clear identification to reduce the risk of using an incorrect combination.

Building a Practical Technical Tool Kit

  • Identify the workflow: Separate tools required for cable assembly, installation, testing, servicing and site operation.
  • Match the system: Confirm connector series, terminal type, conductor size and test interface.
  • Protect specialist tools: Store calibrated or precision equipment in suitable cases or compartments.
  • Plan site lighting: Select worklights according to coverage, runtime, power source and IP rating.
  • Inspect regularly: Check handles, blades, dies, leads, terminals, housings and safety mechanisms.
  • Replace worn components: Damaged tools can compromise the finished connection as well as the operator’s safety.

Safe Use and Competence

Use tools only for their intended purpose and follow the manufacturer’s operating instructions. Isolate equipment before servicing unless an approved test procedure specifically requires an energised circuit. Where electrical, lifting or structural work is involved, the task should be completed by personnel with the appropriate training and competence.
